New Commercial Flooring Trends Showcased at Neocon 2024
On June 10th to 12th, the annual convention, and exhibition for commercial interior design – known as Neocon, was held in downtown Chicago at The Mart. Neocon is the world’s leading event for commercial interior design professionals and the companies who supply everything from flooring to furniture. Since 1969, Neocon has been a place where fellow commercial designers can gather annually to exhibit new products and tour showrooms. At this year’s Neocon, new and forward-looking commercial flooring design trends were showcased, along with many of the timeless flooring covering materials that will never go out of style. Let’s take a look at some of the new trends presented at Neocon 2024:
Sustainability: Sustainability has been a common theme in the commercial flooring industry for a few years now. However, it continues to gain more popularity and importance among commercial flooring companies. Many companies showcased their eco-friendly flooring solutions including AHF’s Heterogeneous sheet collections, along with the introduction of PVC Free flooring from Shaw, Patcraft and Tarkett. It was also highlighted that new sustainability standards are now being enforced.
Bold Colors: In recent years commercial flooring has seen a marked increase in the use of vibrant color palettes. We are still seeing the popular warm neutrals like gray and beige in commercial spaces, with designers regularly now adding pops of bright colors within those neutrals for dramatic design effect and branding. Some bright, trending colors seen at Neocon were blues, greens, reds and pinks. Tarkett showcased an array of bold colors by displaying their LVT which featured the Johnsonite Colors of The Year – Sophisticated Raspberry, Aged Denim, Golden Joy, Earthen Brown, Retrospective Orange, Artful Sage, and Nostalgic Pink.
Patterns and Geometric Designs: Along with bold colors, bold patterns continue their rise in popularity by incorporating a high style while brightening up commercial spaces. Geometric tiles, chevron patterns, and textured flooring were seen throughout Neocon. Mannington introduced a new LVT, Amtico signature abstract collection that produces an effortless pattern when installed, and J+J Flooring displayed their Warp & Weft carpet tiles which feature rhythmic patterns.
The commercial flooring industry is continuously growing and evolving. And commercial space designers are increasingly looking for sustainable options without any compromise to style. Looking at this year’s top trends, we see some exciting new changes while also enjoying the familiarity of a few timeless trends. Commercial interior design will continue to evolve as trends evolve, and we look forward to seeing what comes next!
